Who We Are

The true supporter of eco-friendliness

Welcome to the Roads Going Green Initiative, a transformative tree planting project based in Nakuru City, Kenya. Our initiative is dedicated to planting trees along highways and open spaces to increase forest cover and contribute to global efforts in mitigating climate change. With a vision that stretches far beyond Nakuru City, we aspire to expand our reach throughout the landscapes of Kenya, traverse the terrain of East Africa, and ultimately encompass the entire African continent.

Where we work

Currently, the Roads Going Green Initiative is actively engaged in the city of Nakuru, Kenya, with a successful track record of tree plantations along State House Road. Nakuru serves as our flagship location, showcasing our commitment to transforming road infrastructure into sustainable and eco-friendly corridors.

How we work

At the Roads Going Green Initiative, we operate by fostering partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders. We collaborate with individuals, institutions, schools, churches, and government agencies to plant trees not only along the roads but also in available empty spaces. Our goal is to transform these areas into thriving green environments that contribute to a sustainable and vibrant ecosystem.

To ensure the success of our tree planting initiatives, we prioritize thorough research and location selection. We conduct comprehensive studies to identify the most suitable tree species that are well-adapted to the local climate, promote biodiversity, and offer maximum ecological benefits. By selecting the right trees for each location, considering factors such as soil conditions, sunlight exposure, and water availability, we maximize the positive impact of our efforts.

Our tree planting process at the Roads Going Green Initiative involves carefully nurturing seedlings in nurseries, selecting suitable sites, transplanting the seedlings, providing ongoing care and maintenance, and monitoring the growth and development of the trees. From the nursery to fully grown trees along the roads and in available spaces, we ensure each tree has the best chance to thrive and contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment.

Mission:

Our mission is to create a greener future by planting trees strategically along roads and open areas, promoting environmental sustainability, enhancing biodiversity, and combating the adverse effects of climate change.

Vision:

We envision a world where highways and open spaces are transformed into vibrant green corridors, teeming with healthy trees, providing clean air, preserving ecosystems, and inspiring communities to embrace sustainable practices.

Objectives

Increase Forest Cover: We aim to significantly increase forest cover by strategically planting trees along highways, creating green corridors that improve air quality and mitigate the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate Change Mitigation: By planting trees, we strive to contribute to the global agenda of mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide, reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases, and promoting sustainable land use practices.

Environmental Education: We aim to educate and raise awareness among individuals, schools, and communities about the benefits of tree planting, climate change, and sustainable environmental practices.

Community Engagement: We aim to engage and empower local communities, educational institutions, government bodies, and businesses to actively participate in tree planting activities, raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Beneficiaries of the Roads Going Green Initiative:

The Roads Going Green Initiative is committed to mitigating the effects of climate change and creating a sustainable environment for every living thing. Our initiative aims to benefit a wide range of stakeholders while also prioritizing opportunities for the youth. Here are some of the key beneficiaries and positive impacts of our work:

  1. Mitigating Climate Change Effects: The Roads Going Green Initiative plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change by strategically planting trees along roads and in available spaces. Trees act as natural carbon sinks, sequestering carbon dioxide and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By expanding green infrastructure, we contribute to global efforts to combat climate change, benefiting not only the local community but also the planet as a whole.
  2. Youth Employment Opportunities: The Roads Going Green Initiative creates direct employment opportunities for the youth. Through our tree planting projects, we offer jobs in various roles, including nursery management, tree planting, maintenance, and monitoring. By engaging the youth and providing them with meaningful employment, we contribute to their personal growth, professional development, and economic empowerment
  3. Air Quality Improvement: Trees are nature’s air filters, purifying the air we breathe. By planting trees along roads and in urban areas, the Roads Going Green Initiative contributes to improving air quality. Trees absorb pollutants, such as nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter, while releasing oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. This leads to cleaner and healthier air, reducing the impact of air pollution on human health and well-being.
  4. Soil Conservation: Our tree planting efforts also have a positive impact on soil conservation. The root systems of trees help prevent soil erosion and promote soil stability, particularly in areas susceptible to erosion. By planting trees along roads and in available spaces, we protect soil quality, preserve fertile land for agriculture, and safeguard against the degradation of valuable soil resources.
  5. Water Management: Trees play a vital role in effective water management. Their presence along roads and in urban environments helps reduce storm water runoff and control erosion. Tree canopies intercept rainfall, allowing water to be absorbed into the ground rather than overwhelming drainage systems. Additionally, trees act as natural filters, improving water quality by reducing pollutants and sedimentation that would otherwise reach water bodies.
  6. Beautification: The Roads Going Green Initiative recognizes the importance of beautifying our surroundings. By greening road infrastructure and available spaces, we enhance the aesthetic appeal of urban areas. Trees, plants, and green spaces contribute to a visually pleasing environment, improving the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
  7. Enhanced Biodiversity: Through our tree planting initiatives, we promote the enhancement of biodiversity. By creating green corridors along roads and in urban spaces, we provide habitats and food sources for diverse plant and animal species. This fosters the conservation of native flora and fauna, supporting ecological balance and strengthening the resilience of local ecosystems.
